GROW GUIDE CONDITIONS:
Radishes are a cool or moderate climate crop susceptible to bolting (going to seed) in long days or high temperatures. They are best grown on light, fertile soils with a pH of 6.0–6.8. They are tolerant of a broad range of soils, but heavy soils may produce misshapen, hairy roots. Keep evenly moist for best quality roots.
GROW GUIDE SEEDS:
Radishes are direct seeded and do not transplant well. Direct seed beginning around the last spring frost date and every two weeks until hot weather sets in. Seed again when cool fall weather returns. Plant 1-2 seeds per inch, ½ inch deep, in rows 8–12 inches apart. Thin to 2 inches apart. Keep evenly moist throughout their short growing period.
GROW GUIDE PESTS:
Practice 2–4 year crop rotations with all Brassicaceae species. Cover plants with floating row covers to prevent flea beetle damage to tops.
GROW GUIDE HARVEST:
Harvest when roots reach full size (1–2 inches in diameter), but before they split or become pithy. A light irrigation the day prior to harvest may improve ease of pulling roots. Radishes will keep in the refrigerator about a week.
