Refund policy

General Guidelines for your Return or Exchange

At Mattson’s, we are always dedicated to serving our community with quality and excellence. If the item(s) you purchased in-store are not what you expected or are defective, follow the listed guidelines before making your return:

  • You may return most items within 30 days from the original purchase date as long as the item is UNUSED, IN LIKE-NEW CONDITION, AND IN THE ORIGINAL PACKAGING.
  • Any merchandise missing the original Universal Product Code (UPC) is only available for an even exchange of an identical product. A receipt is required.
  • All product returns must include original paperwork, product instructions and information, and all parts and accessories. If paperwork and pieces are missing, you are ineligible for return.
  • You will also be asked to provide a valid ID and phone number for all returns.

Returns with a receipt within 30 Days of Purchase

  • Purchases made with cash will be issued a cash refund.
  • Purchases made with a debit or credit card will be issued with a refund to that account. If a refund cannot be processed back to the original form of payment you will receive an in-store gift card.
    • It may take three to five business days to issue your refund. Once we issue the refund, it may take additional time for your funds to be made available in your account by your financial institution.
  • Purchases made with a check will be issued a refund in the form of an in-store gift card if the receipt in less than 6 days old.
  • Purchases made with a check with a receipt more than 7 days old will be issued a cash refund if you have no outstanding checks with us.
  • Purchases made with a gift card or in-store credit via gift card will receive in-store credit via an in-store gift card.
  • If a purchase was made with a coupon, the discount amount will be issued in the original form of payment.
    • Coupon amount is forfeited upon return of product.
  • Purchases made with multiple tenders will be refunded in each original form of payment.

Returns with a Receipt after 30 Days of Purchase

  • If you make a return after 30 days of purchase, you will receive an in-store credit via in-store gift card for the original purchase price.
  • All refunds made after 30 days of original purchase are subject to a restocking fee up to 25% of original purchase price.
  • We reserve the right to refuse a refund in the event you succeed the 30 day window.
  • Absolutely no refunds will accepted after 90 days of purchase.

Returns without a Receipt

  • For transactions without a receipt, you may be able retrieve a copy in store if your purchase was made via credit card or paid for by check.
  • If your purchase is verified, you may be eligible for an in-store credit via an in-store gift card.
  • We reserve the right to refuse a refund without a receipt.

Can I Return a Gift Card?

  • Gift cards are not returnable or refundable. Gift cards cannot be redeemed for cash or credit.

Exceptions Concerning Your Return or Exchange

  • All custom cut merchandise are exempt from eligibility of refund.
  • We reserve the right to limit paint returns at our discretion if we suspect abuse or fraud.
  • Custom tinted paint, including Easy-Care in store tinted colors are exempt from eligibility of refund.
  • Clearance items are final sale.
  • Hazardous materials and products that contain hazardous materials, such as flammable liquids or gasses cannot be returned.
  • Mattson’s will not accept returns from other True Value locations.

Outdoor Power Equipment, Power Tools, Grills and Smokers

  • May be returned only within 30 days of original purchase, with original receipt, provided it is unused, uninstalled, and in its original packaging. Outdoor power equipment cannot be returned once fuel or oil has been put in it, even if the equipment has been drained of these materials. If you put fuel or oil in the equipment you will need to contact the manufacturer regarding any product issues. The manufacturer will handle your claim in accordance with the manufacture’s policies. Note that appropriate maintenance and use of your equipment is required to ensure the manufacturer’s specified warranty is not voided.
  • Mattson’s will not return any used power tools that are not defective. A thorough inspection will be made, in the event the proper manager is not available, the refund or exchange will need to be made later.
  • If the product being returned was assembled by Mattson’s Hardware, to be eligible for refund, the original receipt is required and must be made within 30 days of purchase. Along with the original packaging that was sent home with the customer at the point of purchase. The product must be in like new condition, including all warranty paperwork, information, user manuals, accessories, and parts.

Labor and Services 

  • Goods that require assembly, labor, installation, or delivery will only be refunded the amount of the tangible product if eligible.
